Gran Canaria de Las Palmas Airport (LPA): General Guide

Gran Canaria de Las Palmas Airport (LPA) is often referred to simply as Las Palmas Airport, and is the only airport for the entire island. It is located 18km from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the East of the island.

The airport buzzes year round, with travellers flooding in for the heat of the Summer months as well as those escaping the cold during Winter. It has one main terminal building which is divided into three zones; A, B and C. Low-cost airlines such as EasyJet, Ryan Air and Jet2 fly between Las Palmas and major cities in Europe, and Binter Canarias offer low cost flights between Las Palmas and the other islands.

Leisure Facilities
The airport has a range of Duty Free stores including fashion and jewellery outlets, music, wines and spirits, and gifts and souvenirs. There are also several cafes where you can grab a quick bite to eat or coffee, as well as a few bars. The airport is also equipped with a children’s play area and chapel.

Business Facilities
The airport is equipped with an executive lounge named the Galdós VIP lounge.Access is free for Business Class travellers or those with a lounge membership card. Others are able to gain access for a fee of €20,10. There is also a conference hall which seats up to 74 attendees, and is fully equipped with the required audio-visual equipment.

Disabled Facilities
Gran Canaria de Las Palmas Airport is committed to providing a fully accessible environment for those with reduced mobility. It recently revamped the entire passenger area of the terminals to ensure it is free from any barriers or hinderences, including adapting the information desks for those with reduced mobility, incorporating teletext telephones and screens for those with hearing difficulties, and increasing the number of disabled parking spaces.

Today, Gran Canaria de Las Palmas Airport could rival any major international airport in terms its accessibility. As with most other European airports, the airport also has a passenger assistance programme whereby travellers can pre-book assistance for their departure or arrival.

Gran Canaria de Las Palmas Airport (LPA): Getting Into Town

The airport is located a mere 25km from the main resorts of Southern Gran Canaria, making it quick and easy to reach either by local transport or by taxi. Taxi prices are quite steep in comparison to the local bus service however, especially if you are travelling from the south of the island and are unable to share the journey with other travellers.

Reaching the Airport by Bus
Bus lines 60 and 5 both link Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the airport, with line 5 running to Maspalomas in the south of the island. Bus line number 66 runs from Maspalomas to the airport without stopping at Las Palmas.

The bus stop for all three is located directly outside the departures terminal, between zones A and B. A single far four line 60 costs up to €2.85, and a fare from the airport to Maspalomas costs €3.85.

Reaching the Airport by Taxi
Taxi stands are located outside each of the airport’s zones. There are two sets of fares – one for journies made between 6am and 10pm on weekdays, and another for journies made between 10pm and 6am and on holidays. A €1.65 airport supplement is also charged for journies starting or ending at the airport. Average prices for airport transfers are as follows:
