Houston Dress Code

Be warned that Houston is known as the humidity capital of North America during some months of the year. Just about every building in town is air-conditioned and many of the major hotels and office blocks are linked by a series of underground tunnels so you can avoid facing the sweltering streets. Clothes made of comparatively warm but breathable materials such as silk or the new man-made alternatives are highly recommended, so that one is not perspiring outdoors and shivering indoors.

Greeting Someone in Houston

Houston, still holds on to vestiges of an old-fashioned American sense of formality. Courtesy counts for a lot in this part of the world. Texans are warm and friendly people and soon after an initial handshake you are likely to be on first name terms with your contact or host.

Houston Business Hours and Banking

Business hours in Houston vary from one industry and sector to another but in general, most office environments operate between 09.00 and 17.30, Monday to Friday. Banks tend to be open between 09.00 and 15.00, Monday to Friday. Some of the larger banks will probably also be open on Saturday mornings.

Houston Smoking

Smoking is the subject of much controversy in the United States. If you are a smoker, exercise discretion and sensitivity when choosing to smoke, as many Americans cannot tolerate people smoking in front of them. The best advice is to only smoke in like-minded company.
