Named after the wife of George III, Charlotte is often referred to as "Queen City" and is the very epitome of Southern grace, charm and hospitality. Intense development over the last 15 years has resulted in great economic success for the city, which according to "Fortune" magazine, is now home to 292 of the top 500 US companies. A centre of excellence for the performing arts, it is also becoming a national sports hub as it's home to the NBA Charlotte Hornets, the NFL Carolina Panthers and the three NASCAR Winston Cup stock car racing events are held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
