New York Dining
An eclectic mix of peoples brings an exciting fusion of culture that extends into every aspect of society. New York is a multicultural city embracing international flavours both metaphorically and literally. The cuisine available here is second to none. No other city offers such diversity, and it's possible to find any dish from any corner of the globe. The choice is tremendous, the service the friendliest on the planet and the standard of cooking superb. The only complaint from diners might be that there is just far too much choice and far too much food on the plates for one sitting. Eating out is inexpensive, wonderfully social and highly recommended in all its varying New York forms.
New York's Restaurant Weeks bring gastronomy to the majority, with three-course lunches priced at $20 and dinners at $35. The Restaurant Weeks are staged in January and June at more than 200 of the city's top restaurants, showcasing the quality, variety and hospitality of the city's restaurant scene.
Tipping
A 15% tip is expected by taxi drivers, bartenders, hairdressers and waiters, but don't tip in fast-food or self-service restaurants. In expensive restaurants or for large parties tip 20% of the bill. It is normal to tip staff in hotels. Most services are customarily tipped if the service is good.
