In recent years, millions of dollars have been spent revamping Indianapolis with new shopping areas, buildings, parkland and museums. In fact so much has been done that ‘Fortune' magazine has named it one of the 'top ten' most improved cities for business in North America. The community has the eleventh strongest economy in the country and signs of this vibrant growth are to be seen everywhere. The developments most likely to impress the visitor are downtown, in particular the Circle Center, a huge mall that covers several blocks in the heart of the city and contains more than 100 major stores, as well as restaurants, nightclubs and a virtual reality theme park.

A world class museum with a sculpture garden that includes Robert Indiana's famed LOVE, The Indianapolis Museum of Art has several interesting theme pavillions. The Clowes Pavillion features medieval and Renaissance art; the Kramer Pavillion is the place for Oriental and primitive art; and the Lilly Pavillion of Decorative Arts contains noted American and European paintings.

Each May, some 400,000 spectators flock to this 2.5 mile couese, one of the most celebrated auto raceways in the world, to watch the Indianapolis 500. Build in 1909, the Speedway also hosts the Nascar Brickyard 400 in August and the Senior PGA Brickyard Crossing Tournament in September. The museum is a fascinating look at the history of the sport and this historic venue and is situated within the tracks oval. A must-see for the visiting sports fan.
