When to Visit - Arts and Events
Savannah has gained the affectionate nickname "the city of festivals" because it holds so many celebrations and parades. Hardly a week goes by without some kind of event such as the Seafood Festival, International Festival or Fireworks on the Beach. The Night in Old Savannah Blues and Barbeque Festival is a combination of local and national bands, barbecues, oyster bars, wine gardens and beer tents. Savannah's Irish community's St Patrick's Day celebrations are also impressive when a procession of numerous floats and bands parade through the city.

The beautiful historic area of the Riverfront is packed with a wide range of restaurants, cafés and bistros, all housed in restored mansions. Throughout Savannah, the variety of cuisine is endless; Italian, Mexican, Thai and Moroccan are just some of the ethnic restaurants the city has to offer. Those wanting a more casual snack might take advantage of the numerous sandwich bars, diners and fast-food outlets available. Seafood is Savannah's speciality; the freshly-caught shrimps, crabs and oysters are excellent. The traditional southern dishes, such as fried and barbecued chicken, or red rice with sausage, are also delicious.
Savannah Tipping Advice
Tipping is standard practice in the United States. It is customary to tip restaurant staff between 10 and 20 percent. Taxi drivers and hairdressers are tipped by a similar amount, depending on the quality of service. Porters and bellboys are usually given one or two US dollars per piece of luggage.
