Denver Hotels and Denver Guide with Denver maps, top attractions, room reservations and hotel deals at a wide range of the best Denver hotels

Denver, Colorado is a city with an Old West past and a New West present. Started as a mining town in 1859, the “Mile High City” lived up to the rough and tumble image of the new frontier: cowboys and Indians, gunslingers, gold miners, and colorful characters populated the dusty town that lived in the shadows of the great Rocky Mountains. Originally, Denver was three separate towns. Town leaders got together and decided to incorporate in return for a barrel of whiskey they all shared, and thus Denver was born.
Today, Denver has become a polished city that uses the incredible Rockies as a backdrop for its sophisticated cultural and industrial ventures.

Denver is a popular tourist destination because of the wealth of outdoor activities, as well as the cultural opportunities that exist in the city, especially the Downtown area. Denver is a city of contrasts: funky urban living combined with refreshing natural vistas. Ski slops towering over high-tech industries. Scientists and rock climbers, skiers and CEOs roam Lower Downtown. From mountains to museums to microbreweries, Denver is unique in its ability to meld its contrasts into a beautiful whole.

Many cities have a fast-paced, frenetic, chaotic feel that can overwhelm visitors. Denver, while not lacking in excitement or attractions, certainly has a laid-back atmosphere that welcomes urban and rural guests alike. Denver started off its life as a gateway to the Rocky Mountains, a stopping point before moving on Westward. Now, however, it is a mountain treat to be savored for its pleasing climate, abundant outdoor activities, and rich cultural life.

Denver is waiting; explore the city with some of the most exciting vistas in the world.

Denver Districts
Denver may not be what you are expecting. It is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, but the city itself is remarkably flat. Denver is such an extraordinary place because it combines the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Rockies with a refined and sophisticated urban area. Glistening glass buildings exist gracefully with snow-capped peaks. Denver has a thriving Downtown area, a healthy financial district, and a flourishing arts community.

Denver is also a city of great diversity, with strong African-American, Hispanic, and East and Southeast Asian communities. Diversity is also apparent in the city’s art and music scene – a wealth of divergent thoughts and styles are present in each Denver district. Exploring each will provide interesting insight into the Mile High City.

Despite literally being in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, Denver doesn’t pale in comparison. Instead its various neighborhoods collaborate to create an atmosphere of drama, of style and elegance, of rugged stability, and of artistic flair.

Central Business District
Denver is an important business center for the mid-West United States with strong aerospace, telecommunications, technology, and other high-tech industries. The Business District features sleek, modern skyscrapers, as well as a thriving hotel, restaurant, and entertainment sector.

Far East Center
Called Far East Center because of the large population of immigrants and refugees from Asia, this Denver district was a haven for those settling in the US since the Vietnam War. Reflecting the diversity, you will find authentic East and Southeast Asian cuisines. Shops offer a variety of eclectic and unique items.

Capital Hill
Capital Hill is, not surprisingly, where the Capital Building is located. A beautiful, dramatic gold dome tops the building where Denver does the work of governing. A mix of modern and traditional with new apartment buildings and beautiful Victorian homes, Capital Hill is also home to some great bars and restaurants. A fun, lively area.

Five Points
Five Points is one of the largest and oldest neighborhoods in Denver. Formed from an intersection of Washington Street, 27th Street, 26th Avenue, and Welton Street, this area is sometimes called the “Harlem of the West” because of its strong jazz history. Denver’s black community takes great pride in Five Points with its jazzy, bluesy tunes, nightclubs, and diverse restaurant options. A must for any visitor.

Golden Triangle Arts District
Here you will find some of the best museums, art galleries, historical sites, and cultural attractions in the city. Visit the Denver Art Museum, the US Mint, the Colorado Ballet, and over fifty art galleries and studios.

Washington Park
Gorgeous and historic Victorian homes, interesting restaurants, tree-lined streets make Washington Park a lovely Denver destination.

La Alma Lincoln Park/ Auraria
Predominantly a Hispanic neighborhood, La Alma Lincoln Park/ Auraria has numerous art galleries and restaurants. Southwestern architecture and fun cultural festivals, like the Cinco de Mayo Celebrate Culture Festival, display the cultural pride of Denver’s Hispanic community.

Lower Downtown (LoDo)
LoDo to the locals, Lower Downtown is Denver’s oldest district and retains a great sense of the city’s history with its monuments and landmarks. LoDo exemplifies Denver’s ability to mix past and present with its trendy galleries, cafes, and restaurants. Visit Larimer Square for great shopping and dining.
