Muscat is served by Seeb International Airport, which lies 37 kilometers from the city of Muscat in the north of Oman. While the majority of visitors to the city arrive by plane via Seeb Airport, many others are opting to drive in from Dubai and other areas in the UAE or take the bus. Taxis: Most visitors travelling from Seeb International Airport into the city of Muscat take taxis. These have a set-price for fares originating from the airport. Check on the current rate at the airport to ensure that your driver gives you the right fare.
Shared Minivans or Baisa: These are shared ride services that take groups from the airport to destinations within the city and even to some of the outlying suburbs.
Transfer Services: Many major hotels in the city offer their guests transfer services from the airport to their accommodations. Check with your hotel to see if they offer this service – it is extremely convenient and can save a great deal of hassle.
Please note that there are no public buses from the airport into Muscat, nor metros or rail services at all within the city. Taxis and baisa are the most common methods of getting into Muscat from Seeb Airport.
Many travelers opt to enter Muscat via road, whether by bus or car. Daily ONTC buses run from Dubai and several Oman cities to Muscat. Traveling from Dubai to Muscat by car takes about five hours. You will have to stop at the border in Hatta and have your passport stamped to confirm you have left Dubai. At Oman Customs, you will have to park at the immigration building and get an entry stamp. To do this, you will need to fill out the proper form and pay a small fee. (It is 3 Rials for residents of GCC countries, or Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE) and 6 Rials for nonresidents.) You may pay in UAE Dirhams, with a conversion rate of 10AED to 1 Rial Omani.
