Santiago Dress Code

For business people, the normal attire is dark, conservative clothes, suits and ties etc. Outside of business, casual clothes such as jeans and shorts are acceptable but may make you conspicuous as a foreigner. Women are best advised not to wear shorts or anything too revealing out of doors as this may be regarded as provocative. Locals will tend to wear casual, conservative clothes for most occasions outside of business.

Greeting Someone in Santiago

The handshake is very much the custom in Chile, and you should expect to shake hands whenever you meet someone. Chileans usually have double-barrelled surnames and it is standard to only use the first of these when addressing them. Business cards are held in high regard and should be presented upon meeting people.

Business hours in Santiago are 09:00 to 18:30, Monday to Friday. Banking hours are between 09:30 and 15:00, Monday to Friday.

Santiago Smoking

Any areas of Santiago that do not permit smoking will say so clearly. Restaurants cater for both smokers and non-smokers, although some may be completely smoke free.
