The Fort Royal Hotel is located just outside the village of Rathmullen on the shores of Lough Swilly in North Donegal. Nestled in 18 acres of trees, and gardens you will understand why so many guests return when you enter the gates.
The town of Rathmullan is steeped in Irish history, it was here that the Montgomery Family laid the original foundations for what is now the Fort Royal Hotel. The Hotel has belonged to the same family since it opened in 1948, but even though the decor has changed over the years, the hospitality shown to all our guests has not. Fort Royal is also renowned for its award winning cuisine (2 AA rosettes for food), friendly regular staff, comfortable bedrooms and lounges, and a very special home-from-home atmosphere. It is the perfect place to escape to for peace and tranquility, or as a base to explore the fascinating county of Donegal. A lot of our guests come to Fort Royal to do nothing at all, reading a good book by the fire in the lounge, or a gentle stroll on the beach are about as active as they get. For the more energetic however, there are the private 9 hole pitch and putt course and the hard tennis court both overlooking the beach.
