About Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also called Las Palmas, is the capital city of the island of Gran Canaria, the largest city in the Canary Islands region, and one of the largest cities in the whole of Spain. It is joint capital of the Canary islands with Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and is an important economic hub for the region with its busy shipping port and industrial zones. Its seaport plays an important role in the islands economics as it is situated at the intersection of several primary oceanic shopping routes.

The city is situated in the north of the island and is a popular stop for tourists staying in the resorts on the south of the island due to its wealth of artistic, architectural and historic sites. The city's historic district of Vegueta has been proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
