Lake District Transportation
Manchester Airport is one and a half hours from the Lake District by road. Return coach travel is available between the airport and 'Grange-over-Sands', on the Cumbrian coast. A direct train travels to Preston for connections to Cumbria and the Lake District. National Express Coaches connect London and Manchester with Windermere, Keswick, Gresmere and Ambleside.
Arriving by Air
The nearest major airport to the Lake District is Manchester International (MAN). Rail and coach services both operate between the airport and the Lake District.
Getting Around Lake District
Public transport offers an economical way of getting around the region. 'Explorer Tickets', valid for a number of days, are available from the bus operator 'Stage Coach Cumberland' and taxis and car rental are easily available.
