Seoul Dress Code

Whilst it is wise to dress according to the weather, it is important to recall that Koreans attach great importance to first impressions. Always wear a suit in business situations. Women should also dress for the occasion, choosing smart yet conservative clothing.

Greeting Someone in Seoul

When greeting business people in Korea, shake hands at the beginning of the meeting. It is also considered polite to bow slightly. Business cards should be exchanged each time you meet somebody new; give and recieve cards using both hands, as this is considered respectful. Take a few seconds to study the card before putting it away, and never write on the card or mistreat it - this is very insulting. Never give business cards with a Japanese translation on it; the Koreans may consider this to be highly insulting.

Seoul Business Hours and Banking

Office hours in Seoul are 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and Saturday morning, 09:00 to 13:00.

Seoul Smoking

Restaurants offer areas that cater for those who smoke and those who don't, with some operating complete No-Smoking policies. There is a ban on smoking on public transport and the visitor should observe this even if the locals often do not. In business, it is advisable to refrain and take cues from the host.
