When to Visit - Arts and Events

Zurich's spring festival and parade, Sechseläuten, is held on the third Monday of April and brings the streets of Zurich alive. In August, the streets come alive again with the Street Parade, a large-scale electronic music event with international DJs and performers. In November, Expovina, held on boats on the Bürkliplatz, offers tempting exhibitions and samples of international wines.

Zurich is a cosmopolitan city offering cuisine from all over the world. Restaurants range from Swiss, Italian, French and Indian. Zurich's own cooking is in the French style and is best enjoyed with a bottle of local wine in one of the elegant restaurants or country inns.

Tipping is expected in Zurich, so tip according to your level of satisfaction. A service charge is usually included on restaurant and hotel bills of about 15 percent. Taxi drivers expect small tips, but be aware that they also include service charges when billing.
