When to Visit - Arts and Events
Since it was founded 45 years ago, Kammeroper has played a major role in Vienna's success as a 'city of music'. The summer open-air festival, 'Mozart in Schönbrum', and the annual staging at Schönbrum Schlosstheater have always been part of it. The International Film Festival takes place every October.
Vienna Dining
Viennese cuisine tends to have south-east European influences, and there are many traditional dishes you can try in Vienna's restaurants, including Wiener schnitzel, goulash, Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake with raisins) and Palatschinken (Viennese crêpes). Austria is also famous for its coffee houses and the delicious cakes and pastries they serve. Austrian wine is widespread in Vienna, and in addition, traditional drinks such as schnapps, Enzian (brandy) and Bowle (summer punch) can be enjoyed.

It is customary to offer a tip of around 10% to 15% to taxi drivers and attendants at theatres and cloakrooms. Restaurant bills usually include a service charge, but a little extra should be given in addition. Porters and bellboys expect around EUR 0.75.
