Local Customs
Korean names are usually three syllables long, and the surname is given first. A Korean man named Chang Kon-sang should be referred to as Mr Chang. Never refer to a Korean counterpart by their first name, as this is disrespectful, especially if you are in the company of other business people.
Seoul Dining
Korean food is an exotic and spicy experience, based around such distinctive tastes as garlic, ginger, soy sauce, red pepper and green onion. Amongst the possibilities are such famous dishes as pulgoki or kimchi, the piquant vegetable dish that finds its way into most menus.
Seoul Tipping Advice
Generally speaking, tipping is frowned on in Korea. Whilst a service charge is taken by tourist hotels, it is included in the hotel charges. Taxi drivers should not be tipped; however, the visitor may offer a tip to those who provide service above and beyond that expected. For instance, if a taxi driver assists with your luggage, you may consider giving a tip at your discretion.
