Scottsdale is proud of its old "Western" roots and hosts numerous equestrian events. The city's horse shows and parades draw visitors from throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Visitors can also join in the celebrations at "Rawhide", the replica Old Western Town, which frequently holds rodeos, live country music and dancing. Those wanting to test their own horsemanship might take advantage of the opportunity to ride through the mountains or across the Sonoran Desert.

Scottsdale has an excellent selection of restaurants, many offering the opportunity to dine under the night stars against a backdrop of distant mountains. Italian, French, Spanish and Chinese are just some of the cuisine available in the city. Mexican restaurants are particularly popular, the chili potato pancake and pork simmered in red chili sauce are well worth trying. Traditional Western food mainly comprises of beef and beans; specialties include racks of ribs and delicious prime and T-bone steaks. Those wanting to immerse themselves in the culture of "the West" can visit one of the numerous steakhouses with country music and dancing. Some even stage mock gunfights!
Scottsdale Tipping Advice
Tipping is more or less expected in the United States. It is customary to tip restaurant staff, taxi drivers and hairdressers between 10 and 20 percent. Porters and bellboys are generally tipped by one or two US dollars per piece of luggage. It is not necessary to tip in fast-food restaurants or cinemas.
