When to Visit - Arts and Events
Being one of the most colorful cities in South America, Sao Paulo is not short of local festivals. One of the highlights is the Carlton Dance Festival held every year in June and July. There is also a large carnival held during Lent centering on a dancing parade through the streets, rivalling anything in Rio.
São Paulo Dining
Food is very much at the centre of the social life in Sao Paulo and therefore is taken very seriously. The main area for restaurants is the Jardins district, however good quality establishments are scattered throughout this huge metropolis. There are wide choices of cuisine, as you would expect in such a multi-cultural city including German, Lebanese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
São Paulo Tipping Advice
Taxi drivers do not expect substantial tips, whilst hotel staff are likely to expect at least 1.00 BRC (=35p). Generally, consider giving a tip between 10 and 15 percent in restaurants. Remember not to tip public servants, as the action may easily be misinterpreted as a bribe.
