When to Visit - Arts and Events
If you plan on visiting Puerto Vallarta during any Christian celebration such as Christmas and Easter, bear in mind that many locals travel during this time, as do many tourists so be sure to make all your preparations well in advance to avoid the possibility of flights and hotels being fully booked.
Puerto Vallarta Dining
You'd be hard pushed to find a mediocre meal in Puerto Vallarta. Packed with a vast range of great restaurants that reflect the rich cultural diversity of the resort, there is a dining experience for every taste, from traditional Mexican and European to Asian and Middle Eastern. Seafood or 'mariscos' is abundant and seafood restaurants are forced to compete for the best ocean views. Some of the top restaurants offer patrons panoramic vistas from cliff-side garden terraces overlooking the bay. Copious supplies of freshly caught fish mean even simple meals, such as giant shrimp (camarones), served with garlic, butter and spices, or freshly caught red snapper, with rice, a vegetable and tortillas are a gastronomic delight.
Puerto Vallarta Tipping Advice
Since Mexico suffers from a great deal of poverty, foreigners are expected to be relatively wealthy. For this reason tipping is usually expected - but people may expect larger tips than seems reasonable. In fact, waiters should be tipped about 10 to 15 percent of the bill, depending on the service, and bellboys and porters should recieve about seven MXP. Puerto Vallarta hotel maids should recieve about three MXP, and taxi drivers should not be tipped unless they provide help with your bags, then they should be paid about four to eight MXP.
