When to Visit - Arts and Events
Perth is a paradise for all animal lovers. The area's isolation has lead to the establishment of numerous National Parks, some of which are within driving distance from the city. Closer to home, the Cohunu Wildlife Park offers the opportunity to cuddle koalas and see a wide range of animals in their natural habitats. The Underwater World Aquarium has a submerged tunnel walkway, giving excellent views of over two-hundred marine species including sharks, stingrays and dolphins. Visitors prepared to make a short trip out to the nearby islands can see sea lions, dolphins and the largest colony of little, or fairy, penguins on the West Coast.
Perth Dining
Restaurants, bistros and cafes are found throughout Perth along riversides, overlooking beaches or set amidst the bustling downtown area. The city's large European and Asian immigrant community has led to a wide range of authentic ethnic cuisine, including Chinese, French, Italian and Thai restaurants. Fresh seafood is Perth's speciality with favourites such as king prawns, rock lobsters and Western Australian dhufish. The beef and lamb dishes are also delicious and wines from the local vineyards are inexpensive and of excellent quality.
Perth Tipping Advice
Tipping is generally not customary in Australia and service charges are not normally included in the bills. At top quality restaurants it is usual to tip between five and ten percent; at other restaurants, tip according to the quality of service given. Taxi drivers are tipped by rounding the fare up to the nearest dollar.
