When to Visit - Arts and Events
Oklahoma is home to more than 67 Native American tribes. Every June, over 2,000 of the finest Native American artists, dancers and singers from more than 100 tribes across North America gather for the Red Earth Festival at the Myriad Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The Red Earth Festival is the largest Native American cultural and arts exposition in the world.
Oklahoma City Dining
Traditional Mexican dishes, the best barbecue recipes in the South, world famous Tex-Mex creations and the "best chicken fried steak in the universe" are only the beginning of the great food to be found in Oklahoma City. Renowned also for its excellent northern Italian cuisine, including fresh pasta and stone-baked pizzas, the alfresco charm of patio dining can make eating out in Oklahoma City remarkably reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Fresh seafood is flown in several times a week to offer more contrast to menus already filled with home-baked pot pies, smokehouse entrées, hand-crafted beers and unique, original salad dressings.
Oklahoma City Tipping Advice
Service charges are not usually added to restaurant bills. A gratuity of between 10 and 15 percent is recommended according to the standard of food and service. A tip of one US dollar is acceptable for doormen, valets and parking attendants.
