As well as the New Orleans International Airport, the state of Louisiana has excellent infrastructure with superb road and rail networks.
Arriving by Air
New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is located 24km (15 miles) west of the city in the region of Kenner. MSY handles a large number of domestic flights as well as a good international service.
Arriving by Car
I-10 heads into New Orleans from Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California from the west, and Mobile, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida from the east. I-55 arrives into New Orleans from Memphis, St Louis, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois.
Getting Around New Orleans
A taxi from New Orleans International Airport into town (about twelve miles in distance) costs around 21 USD or 8 USD per person for three people or over. Other possibilities include an airport shuttle service or a regular bus service. Don't consider driving in New Orleans as traffic problems of all kinds are rife and parking rules are tight and strictly enforced. However, streetcars are plentiful and offer a fun way of seeing the city. Be warned that the historic cars do require you have the correct fare, though Visitor Passes are available and they allow for unlimited travel on streetcars and buses with the choice of one or three day passes. Note that the streetcars (especially those in Charles Street) can get very crowded at peak hours.
