Nashville Transportation
As well as the Nashville International Airport (BNA), Nashville is easily accessible by road from the surrounding Tennessee area and beyond. In addition, America's rail network frequently and efficiently serves the city.
Arriving by Air
Nashville International Airport (BNA) is eight miles (13 kilometers) east of the city and the major hotels operate complimentary airport shuttle services. Like all airports in the United States, Nashville International Airport has stepped up its security operation. Travelers, therefore, should be patient and allow plenty of time when arriving or leaving the airport. Taxis and rental car companies are conveniently located at the airport and for sightseeing there are also river taxis.
Arriving by Car
If driving from Louisville, take the Highway 65 south to Nashville; the same road can be used when traveling from Birmingham, Alabama. Highway 40 is the route to take when driving to Nasville from Knoxville and the Appalachian Mountains, east of Nashville, and Memphis, west of Nashville. Greyhound National Bus services offer regular nation-wide services including eight arrivals and departures per day to and from Memphis and New Orleans.
Getting Around Nashville
The downtown Nashville area is quite small and many of the tourist attractions and business areas are easily managed on foot. In addition, Nashville's public transport network is an inexpensive, reliable and efficient way of getting around the city.
