When to Visit - Arts and Events
Moscow is a city rich in cultual and artistic heritage but the jewel in its crown is The Bolshoi Theatre. Home to Russia's leading ballet company, the Bolshoi Ballet, The Bolshoi Theatre puts on performances of both ballet and opera and is considered a must on any visit to Moscow.
Moscow Dining
It used to be very difficult to find a good restaurant in Moscow, but not nowadays. Today, the city's 'food scene' is just about as international as London or New York and Moscow has a large number of excellent restaurants, in all price ranges. Local specialities to sample are 'pelmeni' (dumplings), sturgeon, 'bliny' (pancakes, served with butter or caviar) and 'borsch', a meat stewed in ceramic pots with fresh cream and raisins, accompanied by fine wine or the local vodka. The best food is often found in the major hotels and Chinese, Japanese, Italian and French restaurants are scattered throughout the city.
Moscow Tipping Advice
Tipping is left to your discretion if the service warrants it. An amount of 10 to 15 percent is sufficient.
