Moscow Dress Code

For business, attire is the same as in any major capital city, i.e. smart suits. When visiting tourist attractions such as churches, remember that Russia is a Christian Orthodox country and women are requested to cover their heads. Also thick coats and hats are a necessity if visiting during the winter.

Greeting Someone in Moscow

A simple handshake is sufficient for most occasions. Address the person with his/her title and last name until requested to use their first name. If visiting someone in a more social setting, it is customary to bring a small gift such as wine, flowers or chocolates.

Moscow Business Hours and Banking

Offices in Moscow are generally open for business between 09:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday. It is not unknown for some companies to work Saturday mornings but it is less likely than in other parts of Europe.

Moscow Smoking

Smokers are warned to be careful when choosing a place to light up as some public places have banned smoking altogether. The best advice is to smoke only in like-minded company.
