Milan Transportation
In keeping with Milan's status as commercial and financial hub of Northern Italy, the city is very well connected by road rail and air to Rome, Florence and beyond.
Arriving by Air
Milan is served by Milan Linate International Airport and Malpensa Airport. Both Milan airports make the city very accessible from other cities within Italy, Europe and worldwide.
Arriving by Car
If heading to Milan from Rome or Florence, take the A1 Autostrada. If arriving from Venice, the A4 should be used. Although Italy's A roads are of high quality, traffic will become very heavy and slow moving approaching Milan. This combined with a parking ban throughout much of Milan city center means that the best advice is to leave your car on the outskirts and take public transport into the city.
Getting Around Milan
Milan has an efficient and effective public transport system. As well as the four lines of the excellent Milan underground system, the city is well served by buses and trams. Driving in Milan city center is not recommended as the traffic is heavy and parking spaces are few and expensive but taxis are freely available.
