Melbourne Transportation
As well as the international Melbourne Airport, the city has excellent road and rail links to other Australian cities. There are also good coach services that run between Australian cities.
Arriving by Air
Melbourne Airport is located 24 kilometres (15 miles) north-west of Melbourne centre. The two-terminal airport is a busy one that efficiently links Melbourne internationally and to the other far-flung cities of Australia.
Arriving by Car
The Hume Highway is the main road that leads into Melbourne from Canberra and Sydney. Any journey heading into Melbourne will probably make use of the Hume at one point or other. Before embarking on intercity journeys, drivers unfamiliar with the country should bear in mind that distances between major Australian cities can be huge.
Getting Around Melbourne
Driving in Melborne city centre is not difficult but often busy, especially during rush hours. If at all possible, visitors are better advised to use one of the many public transport alternatives to the car. These include buses, trains and trams.
