Time Off
Louisville, pronounced "loo-uh-vul" and never "lewis-ville", is set on a bend of the Ohio River and like the rest of Kentucky, is horse racing country. The Kentucky Derby, an extravagant display of horse racing, carnivals and shows, is the highlight of the city's social calendar. However, Louisville has a lot more to offer. Old Louisville displays architectural styles ranging from Victorian Gothic to Romanesque and art galleries housing impressive exhibitions of paintings, including works by Rembrandt, Rubens and Picasso. The Waterfront Park, with its landscaped gardens and beautiful views of the Ohio River, is well worth exploring and visitors can take the opportunity to embark on a river cruise aboard the "Belle of Louisville", the nation's oldest steamboat.
