When to Visit - Arts and Events
A city of events and entertainments, Vegas has much in the way of culture to interest the visitor. As well as the famous casino cabarets and shows, most major rock and pop artists will stop at Las Vegas during a tour of the United States. The city is often the venue for high profile boxing matches and hosts the event in true flamboyant style.
Annual events include the 'St Patrick's Day Parade' - a celebration of Irish heritage, in March; the 'Rodeo and Western Festival' - a theme event with rodeo competitions is held in May and 'Jaycees State Fair' and the 'Cashman Field PGA International Golf Tournament' in October.
Las Vegas Dining
Today's visitors to Las Vegas are spending more money on entertainment and eating out than on gaming and as a result, restaurateurs are placing a higher emphasis on fine international cuisine. The city now matches other US destinations and can boast some of the world's best restaurants. With little cuisine indigenous to Las Vegas, the choice is truly global with speciality cuisine from France, Italy and China as well as 'Tex-Mex' and southwest US influences. The Strip and downtown areas house a plethora of dining outlets.
Las Vegas Tipping Advice
In Las Vegas, as in the rest of the United States, service personnel rely on tips to supplement their wages. For waiters, bartenders, taxi drivers or similar, 15 percent is standard. Las Vegas baggage handlers, at hotels and airports, should be given 1 US dollar per bag and a hotel doorman, 50 cents to one US dollar for loading or unloading luggage or other similar service.
