Kathmandu Transportation
Arriving by Air
The Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is located less than six kilometres away from Kathmandu. The trip from the airport to the city takes approximately 20 minutes. Free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel is available for travellers staying in one of the luxurious Kathmandu airport hotels. Other travellers can hire taxis from the booth outside the airport for a small fee.

Getting Around Kathmandu
The best way of getting around Kathmandu is by foot - especially in the old city, where transportation can be very uncomfortable at times. Although, for those who can brave it - taxis, auto-rickshaws and rickshaws are available.
Taxis
Taxis are economical and are the most comfortable mode of transport, especially for long journeys. Many taxi companies as well as freelance operators offer their services for visitors in Kathmandu.
Buses
Buses and minibuses cover most parts around Kathmandu. The buses operate on fixed routes and can be quite uncomfortable for travel - although, the buses travelling longer distances are in better condition than the others.
Motorcycle and Bicycles
Riding a motorcycle is a great way to explore the Kathmandu valley and beyond. Several operators in Thamel and Freak Street rent out 100cc motorcycles for a reasonable daily charge. Bicycles for hire, on the other hand, are hard to find - even though, they are a fun way of exploring the city and nearby areas. As bicycles aren’t very expensive, purchasing a bike would be a good idea - especially if you plan to stay for an extended period.
Car Rental
A rental car is quite often not the cheapest mode of travelling around - but for those preferring added comfort when travelling, Kathmandu has several rental car agencies offering their services. These official agencies can be expensive and include companies such as Yeti Travel (Tel: +977 1 221234) and Gorkha Travels (Tel: +977 1 224895).
