Istanbul Transportation
Istanbul is accessible from both Europe and Asia by a number of methods, although passport and customs checks can be frequent. If arriving in Istanbul from an area where air travel is possible then this option should be taken.
Arriving by Air
Istanbul's Ataturk Airport handles both international and domestic flights.
Getting Around Istanbul
Buses are definitely be thest way of getting around the busy streets of Istanbul. For getting around town buses are plentiful but usually quite crowded. Tickets are available from the kiosks by main bus stops. Bus drivers sometimes fail to stop at the smaller bus stops and distances between the main stops can be quite long. Alternatively, the tram system was renovated in the early 90s and runs in a similar way to the buses with tickets interchangeable between the two. In addition, there are ferries and passenger boats traveling up and down the waterways of Istanbul and also between Europe and Asia.
