When to Visit - Arts and Events
A big bonus when visiting Denver is its close proximity to the spectacular Rocky Mountains. One of the many beautiful parks that exist is the Rocky Mountain National Park. The park preserves over 250,000 acres of alpine and sub-alpine wilderness. Snowy peaks, crystal lakes, barren tundra and lush meadows characterise this heavily visited park (avoid July and August if at all possible).
With the notable exception of the superbly scenic alpine drives, Rocky Mountain National Park is most credited for its excellent hiking. Over 350 miles of spectacular trails offer almost limitless possibilities, long and short.
Denver Dining
Dining in Denver can range from typically American grilled beef, elk or buffalo steaks to French, Vietnamese and sushi. Innovative 'New Southwestern', together with international cooking is widely available in every price range. The best area for American menus is 17th Avenue East and LoDo, while Federal Street is the place for more inventive cuisine. Colorado is well-known for its excellent microbrew beers, but it is worth noting that Denver's altitude produces a quicker reaction to alcohol.
Denver Tipping Advice
In Denver, as in the rest of the United States, service personnel rely on tips to supplement their wages. For waiters, bartenders, taxi drivers or similar, 15 percent is standard. Baggage handlers at hotels and airports should be given one US dollar per bag and a hotel doorman, 50 cents to one US dollar for loading or unloading luggage or other similar service. Tipping is not expected in fast-food restaurants or cinemas.
