Columbus Transportation
Getting into, out of and around the city of Columbus is relatively easy as you would perhaps expect for a major city. For air travelers, Port Columbus International Airport serves as Columbus' link to the rest of the United States and the wider world. Driving into the city is also a refreshingly straightforward experience and Columbus is also well served by rail and national bus services.
Arriving by Air
Port Columbus International Airport is six miles (ten kilometers) from downtown Columbus and efficiently seves the area both domestically and internationally.
Arriving by Car
For those driving into the city, the intersection of two interstate highways and a number of other major roads make Columbus highly accessible. The primary east to west highway is I-70. The main north-south road is I-71, running from Cleveland to the Gulf Coast. I-270 is the outerbelt, St. Rte. 315 runs north to south and I-670 connects the airport and downtown areas.
Getting Around Columbus
Despite Columbus' big-city status, getting around town is comparatively uncomplicated with the peripheral I-270 combined with I-670 and route 315 allowing quick and easy travel to and from each side of the city. COTA operates a comprehensive bus service throughout the city but as the downtown area is fairly compact, walking is recommended.
