Local Customs
Chester has, over the centuries, held onto several customs long abandoned by most other cities. A particularly good example is the town crier. He still appears in summertime at 12 noon and can often be seen at other times of day or year, striding around the city's streets in red regalia and the famous tricorn hat, ringing the bell that gives him his historical title, 'bellman'. His official function is still the same; to make public proclamations of city news.
Chester Dining
Chester offers a great veriety of restaurants and pubs. English cuisine ranges from freshly grilled rainbow trout and tender steak to excellent vegetarian meals. Most local pubs serve traditional 'old English fare' in the form of a 'roast beef' dinner. For those wanting something a little more exotic, take your pick from Cantonese, French, Thai and even Caribbean restaurants.
Chester Tipping Advice
Tipping in the United Kingdom is very much at your own discretion. If the service is good, then it is considered good practice to tip. The amount is up to you, but around 10 percent tends to be standard.
