When to Visit - Arts and Events

Easter week in Cartagena, Murcia and Lorca is a time for tremendous celebrations, processions and a week-long carnival atmosphere. Music, dancing, feasting and staying up all night is traditional. The festivities are open to all, with visitors greatly appreciated and always warmly welcomed. There are numerous ceramic workshops in this area, which is renowned for its highly skilled craftspeople. Religious icons, Nativity figures and individually designed tableware hold the identity of the area and are inexpensive local treasures worth taking home.

Cartagena Dining

Fresh fish, choice new vegetables, light, crisp wines and the finest baked goods are typical of any Spanish eating experience. The restaurants in and around Cartagena are no exception. The surprise comes in the diversity of cuisine available. Italian, Mexican, French and American restaurants can all be discovered in close proximity alongside the best traditional local menus. Superb fish dishes served with simple, freshly picked salads and warm, crusty bread are a true Mediterranean speciality that should be enjoyed whilst gazing out over the source of this culinary delight. All-in-one pot cooking is also a tradition here and is recommended for cooler Levant nights.

Cartagena Tipping Advice

Service charges are usually included in restaurant bills but it is common practice to leave a little extra on top. There is no standard recommendation but between 5% and 10% seems to be the norm. Adding 5% to taxi fares would be appreciated.
