Cartagena Dress Code

Business attire is generally formal, with both men and women wearing suits. Colours follow seasonal changes, with a tendency towards pale greys and creams in the summer and darker suits in the winter. The Spanish are a nation of playful, flamboyant dressers. It is very much appreciated when visitors dress up for special occasions. Apart from this, there is a relaxed air of anything goes, particularly on the beaches.

Greeting Someone in Cartagena

Shaking hands is the customary Spanish greeting. Embracing, with the European practice of kissing both cheeks, is common among acquaintances. For business purposes it is advisable to follow the lead of the host regarding use of first names.

Cartagena Business Hours and Banking

Most government offices in Spain are open weekdays from 09:00 to 14:00 only. Businesses will operate longer hours, with some closing for a couple of hours in the afternoon. This varies from company to company. Banks are generally open weekdays from 09:00 to 14:00 and Saturday from 08:30 to 13:00. In the summer most banks close at 13:00 on weekdays and stay closed on Saturday.

Cartagena Smoking

Spanish restaurants are keen to offer areas that cater for those who smoke and those who don't, with some operating a complete no-smoking policy. In business it is advisable to refrain and take cues from the host.
