Boston Dress Code
For business meetings, both men and women wear suits. The more exclusive bars and restaurants may also stipulate a shirt and tie, although smart, casual attire is more usual in Boston. In the winter, be sure to bring a warm overcoat, scarf and gloves, as well as water-resistant boots or shoes with a good grip, as the streets can become very wet and slippery.
Greeting Someone in Boston
The people of Boston are generally friendly and helpful. Meetings are conducted fairly informally and with an emphasis on equality. Firm handshakes and sincerity are recommended for this 'no fuss' business community.
Boston Business Hours and Banking
Boston's business hours vary from one industry and sector to another but in general, most office environments operate between 09:00 and 17:30, Monday to Friday. Banks tend to be open between 09:00 and 15:00, Monday to Friday. Some of the larger banks will probably also be open on Saturday mornings.
Boston Smoking
Smoking is the subject of much controversy in the United States. If you are a smoker, exercise discretion and sensitivity when choosing to smoke, as many Americans cannot tolerate people smoking in front of them. The best advice is to only smoke in like-minded company.
