Famous for the bringing the flavours of the world together in one place, Birmingham’s culinary scene is flourishing. Birmingham is renowned as the 'capital of balti', which was introduced to the city by its large Kashmiri population. The English have a great passion for Indian cuisine, and this is the city to visit if you want to experience the very best in curry. A balti meal is a fast-cooked curry of meat, vegetables and flavoursome spices, and the majority of balti restaurants are in the southern part of the city. The Sparkbrook area is known as 'Balti Triangle,' just 10 minutes from Birmingham city centre, with around 50 restaurants in this district alone.

In Birmingham there is a restaurant to suit everyone. Like most English cities you will find your fair share of Greek, Italian, French, Chinese and American restaurants, but here you can also find the more unusual, such as Austrian, Portuguese, Malaysian and Mongolian.

However, here in the 'heart of England' you can find regional delicacies like Herefordshire beef, Evesham asparagus, Melton Mowbray pork pies and of course Worcestershire Sauce, all of which can be enjoyed in many of the region's pubs. Enjoying a hearty 'ploughman's lunch', with creamy Stilton or Double Gloucester cheese, is a very satisfying way of passing a lunchtime.
