Local Customs
The two most sacred things to the Thai people are the monarchy and religion. As long as you show respect for both of these then you will find Thais the kindest and most generous people in the world. The King is held in very high regard and you will see his image everywhere. Although he has little political power he is still considered the 'father of the people'. When visiting temples (wats) you must ensure that you are suitably dressed, which means no shorts or singlets. Often you will be asked to remove your shoes, and when inside the temple try to avoid pointing your feet at any religious statues.
Bangkok Dining
For most visitors, their fondest memories of Thailand are the people, the beaches and the food. Thai cuisine has a worldwide reputation for excellence, whether you eat in a top restaurant or from a street stall. International cuisine is available in Bangkok but the indigenous food is so good, it would be a shame not to try it.
Bangkok Tipping Advice
Tipping is not customary in Thailand, although Thais are getting used to the idea in upmarket hotels, where a service charge is often added.
