Atlanta Transportation
In addition to the popular Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta also has an excellent infrastructure, with superior road and rail links to many other American cities.
Arriving by Air
Atlanta is served by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. With around 75 million domestic and five million international passengers annually, Hartsfield Atlanta Airport is the busiest airport in the world.
Arriving by Car
The highly accessible city of Atlanta is intersected by I-20, I-75 and I-85. I-20 comes in from the west from Birmingham in Alabama and Dallas in Texas and from the east from Augusta and Columbia in South Carolina. I-75 passes through Atlanta on its way north from Florida to Michigan. I-85 heads south-west to Montgomery in Alabama and north-east to Charlotte in North Carolina and then to Virginia. Atlanta is ringed by the I-285, a perimeter highway that circles the metropolitan area.
Getting Around Atlanta
Traffic can often be congested in the city centre. The best alternative to driving in Atlanta is the excellent MARTA system: an effective method of getting around with free transfers to the bus system, where appropriate.
